Dominica - Twinning Challenge

Tonight we did the twinning challenge. We have a new twinning country - Dominica (not to be confused with the Dominican Rebuplic). We collected a donation for guiding in Dominica, we listened to some Calypso music, ate mango, papaya and banana, heard a Caribbean folk tale, and made some Guiding displays on Dominica.

We also completed most of the planning for the district's Thinking Day event. We are hoping that every girl in our distict will complete this challenge. We plan on hosting a 'festival', where the girls will learn more about Dominica. It should be fun.

Abby and Allison took a Caribbean folk tale and rewrote it into an interactive story which they will read on Thinking Day. We plan on making feathered head dresses and morrocos and having a 'parade'. We also will have a language session where the girls will have the opportunity to learn some Creole. We plan on asking each unit to bring some traditional Caribbean snacks. It should be a fun event, we just have to wait until February.

Christmas Craft Night!

It seems we do everything early. First Halloween, then Bonfire, and now this! Maxine (District Commissioner) wants our crafts by the first week in December so that they can be handed out at the District Christmas party. So we didn't want to disappoint Maxine.

We did quite a few crafts....Some to give away, some to keep for ourselves.

I'm afraid I would have taken better pictures, but it seems there was this penguin that kept trying to hog the pictures. I will post one picture of her.

Bonfire Night!!

We have no Rangers tonight. We did have a meeting last week, in Cathy's backyard. We had a Bonfire meeting. It took us a while to get started since no one remembered to bring matches, and Cathy's lighters had been confiscated last weekend when we flew in from the conference. So Amy had to go next door and borrow a lighter. We made "Banana Dreamboats" and "Hairy Angels". We sang some songs and even learned a few new ones that Cathy and Kelly learned at last month's Guider's conference. Abby brought some rainbow packets to throw into the fire which added a very colourful touch. The girls discovered Abby will be graduating high school soon, and are planing a party for her. This promises to be fun!

On this past Monday night we had an unofficial meeting at Tim Hortons when Heather came home for a visit. Heather is a Link member this year while she is going to University in Halifax. It is no trouble to miss her and Sara in our unit this year.
